Song of Black Max

Written by William Bolcom, Black Max, characterization of death, was based on a true recollection of Willem de Kooning.

Sein wir wieder gut

German for “It’s all good”, the song tells the story of a composer who falls for the leader of a commedia dell'arte troupe.

Condotta ell’era in ceppi

Italian for “They took her in chains”, the aria tells the story of Azucena mother's execution, and the fiery accidental death of her own infant son.

Santuzza/ Alfio Duet

Santuzza reveals to Alfio that his wife has been unfaithful to him, before realizing that Alfio’s fury will doom them all.
